Preparing Our Students for Their Future

The GUHSD Career Technical Education programs are committed to ensuring students benefit from a rigorous academic course load that is also aligned with college and workforce expectations.  What was once known as "vocational education," has been updated to reflect the changes in the workplace that call for higher levels of academic and applied skills.  Career Technical Education, or CTE, breaks free from the constraints of job-specific training and instead empowers students to be focused, adaptable, and ready to meet the challenges of their chosen post-secondary path.  In order to better meet the needs of the 21st Century student, GUHSD offers CTE Pathways at every high school in the District.  We currently offer 39 Pathways, in 13 Industry Sectors identified by the State of California as industries with expected career growth. The success of these CTE Pathways is due to our college and industry aligned curriculum, our linked learning pathways, our ongoing professional development for our teachers, and the strong partnerships we have with our area business and community partners.

These invaluable relationships help us to ensure that our students are working with the latest equipment, and that the curriculum is consistent with current industry standards. We are always seeking to strengthen our relationships as well as develop new ones through outreach and student showcases.  Our business partners range guest speakers in one of our classrooms, to providing a student internships, and many points in between. In addition to working with industry representatives, many of our courses are articulated with local community colleges, which means students can earn college credit for taking our courses. Thanks to our deep connections in the community, our CTE programs are designed to help students be college and career ready.

Career Technical Education is thriving in the Grossmont Union High School District. Please take a look at what pathways are offered at our schools, or check out the individual school site brochures and then decided what might be right for you. If you want to be on a pathway to success, CTE can help!
