Preparing Students for Their Future
The GUHSD Career Technical Education programs are committed to ensuring students benefit form a rigorous academic course load that is also aligned with college and workforce expectations. What was once known as "vocational education," has been updated to reflect the changes in the workplace that call for higher levels of academic and applied skills. Career Technical Education, or CTE, breaks free from the constraints of job-specific training and instead empowers students to be focused, adaptable, and ready to meet the challenges of their chosen post-secondary path. In order to better meet the needs of the 21st Century student, GUHSD offers CTE Pathways at every high school in the District. We currently offer 39 Pathways, in 13 Industry Sectors identified by the State of California as industries with expected career growth. The success of these CTE Pathways is due to our college and industry aligned curriculum, our linked learning pathways, our ongoing professional development for our teachers, and the strong partnerships we have with our area business and community partners.
These invaluable relationships help us to ensure that our students are working with the latest equipment, and that the curriculum is up to the current industry standards. We are always seeking to strengthen our relationships as well as develop new ones through outreach and showcases. Our business partners range guest speakers in one of our classrooms, to providing a student internships, and many points in between. We are currently changing our database collection process, and would ask that if you have been a business partner in the past, please take a few minutes to complete the short online form by clicking on the gold button located on our Business Partner page.
For those of you who are considering partnering with us for the first time, we also ask that you complete the short online form. Someone from our office will contact you to discuss how you can help train the next generation as we prepare our students to become college and career ready.
